3D printing

Print a 3D object using our 3D printer. Using an eco-friendly, corn-based, biodegradable plastic filament, 3D printing works by heating up the filament and extruding it through a mechanism that builds the object in layers.

  1. Use the 3D printer computer in the Media Lab to visit www.thingiverse.com and search for an object to print.
  2. Download the file into the 3D printing software to adjust the size and settings, and start printing.

The larger and more complex the object, the longer it takes to print. See the 3D printing guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.

Green screen

Create fun photos, holiday cards, and more by using our green screen to superimpose yourself onto a background of your choice. The green screen software allows you edit the photo and download the finished product. Save your image to a USB stick or email it to yourself.

  1. Bring a digital camera from home or use the Library's to take a picture in front of the green screen in the Children's Area of the Library.
  2. Connect the camera to our computer and upload your picture into the green screen software.
  3. Find a background online, or use one of the saved photos, and upload that as well.
  4. Use the software to position yourself in a good spot, and then save your image.

See the green screen guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.

Scanning slides and negatives

Scan old slides and photo negatives to make high-resolution digital copies using our Epson V600 scanner. You can save your scans to a USB or email the files to yourself. The scanner is available on a first-come-first-serve basis, there is no booking required. See the scanning guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.

Silhouette Cameo 4

The Silhouette Cameo 4 is desktop cutting machine for the modern maker. Cut precise shapes from paper, vinyl, fabric and other thin materials to make cards, crafts, signs, personalized stickers and more. For a short instruction session, please Book a Librarian.

  • Use Silhouette Studio software on the connected PC to create your design or import a design (JPG/JPEG, PNG, BMP, and DXF files). Silhouette Studio has a variety of tools available, like a Text Tool and Line Tool.
  • Place your material on the Silhouette cut mats, or set up a vinyl roll. Select the correct material type in Silhouette Studio.
  • Click the “Send” button and begin the cut.
  •  Once your design is finished cutting, unload the cut mat. Remove the material from the cut mat. The Library supplies tools and transfer tape if needed.

VHS to DVD transferring

Transfer old home movies from VHS tape to DVD using our VCR/DVD player and Honestech software. The equipment is used on a first-come-first-serve basis, there is no booking required. Bring the tape you wish to transfer and the Library will supply you with a blank disc. See the VHS to DVD guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.
