Use the Media Lab at the Grimsby Public Library any time during open hours. All equipment and software is free to use. If you need help using any of the equipment or software, please ask staff for assistance. You can make a 3D printed object, scan old slides and negatives, compose a picture using the green screen, or make all kinds of other useful and creative things.
Click below to check out the full list of Media Lab items:
Print a 3D object using our 3D printer. Using an eco-friendly, corn-based, biodegradable plastic filament, 3D printing works by heating up the filament and extruding it through a mechanism that builds the object in layers.
The larger and more complex the object, the longer it takes to print. See the 3D printing guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.
Scan old slides and photo negatives to make high-resolution digital copies using our Epson V600 scanner. You can save your scans to a USB or email the files to yourself. The scanner is available on a first-come-first-serve basis, there is no booking required. See the scanning guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.
The Silhouette Cameo 4 is desktop cutting machine for the modern maker. Cut precise shapes from paper, vinyl, fabric and other thin materials to make cards, crafts, signs, personalized stickers and more. For a short instruction session, please Book a Librarian.
How to use the Silhouette Cameo 4
Transfer old home movies from VHS tape to DVD using our VCR/DVD player and Honestech software. The equipment is used on a first-come-first-serve basis, there is no booking required. Bring the tape you wish to transfer and the Library will supply you with a blank disc. See the VHS to DVD guidelines available at the library for more detailed instructions, or ask staff to get you started.
The Grimsby Public Library thanks the Government of Ontario for its support, and for the grant to make the Media Lab possible.
